Moult terminology: Let's make it simpler!

An understanding of feather moult, an important process in the life cycle birds, lags behind that other avian life‐history events. This lag includes a lack scientific attention, but surprisingly also basic knowledge regarding moult strategy many bird species. situation is particularly astonishing light fact feathers are unique characteristic birds. Currently, there two main terminology systems for describing moult: one life‐cycle‐based and plumage‐based (H–P terminology). A survey conducted among 434 birdwatchers, bird‐ringers (banders) ornithologists showed significant difference terminologies. Ornithologists studying as well editors reviewers, called upon to make use of, encourage understandable terminology, much possible. Using more terms language may help wider audience amateurs, students understand moult. Involvement advance data collection research this event cycle.
